If your Flo-Series software is having trouble finding a stand-alone license on a verification key attached directly to your computer's parallel port, these steps will determine if problem is the result of a bad driver configuration.

You should have a good familiarity with your Windows operating system and full administrator privileges on your computer before you attempt to follow these directions.

First, it is absolutely necessary to make sure that you have at least version 5.41 of the Sentinel System Driver installed on your computer. If you are unsure of which driver version you currently have installed, it may be best to download and install the latest driver before continuing. These drivers may be found at SafeNet Sentinel Driver . Once you've installed the latest drivers, proceed to the following steps.

  1. Load the Driver Configuration Tool and Verify that the Service is Running

    • Open the directory where you installed the Sentinel System Driver. By default this directory is "C:\program files\rainbow technologies\sentinel system driver".

    • Run (double-click) "setupsysdriver.exe" to run the configuration tool.

    • Verify that the "Installed Driver Version" box says "Version 5.41 for Windows NT/2000." (5.41 should be the version of your currently installed driver if you've installed a more recent driver update.) This text indicates that driver's service is installed and running properly. If you see the text "Version not detected" instead, then click the "Start NT Parallel Driver" button (3rd button). If the driver does not start, report any error messages to Engineered Software Technical Support.

  2. Verify That the Sentinel Driver can Locate the Correct Hardware Ports

    • Assuming you did not run into problems or error messages during step 1, click the "Configure Driver" button (middle button on the configuration utility) to launch the "Ports" dialog box.

    • On most systems you will see two entries: One of type USB and one of type ECP. The ECP port generally has a physical address of 378.

    • If you do see an entry for an ECP port, verify that Use = Yes. If it does not, select the port, click the edit button and toggle the use field from No to Yes. Accept all changes, close the dialog boxes and re-run your Flo-Series software.

    • If you do not see an entry for ECP, this is probably the reason your Flo-Series product cannot find the verification key. Proceed to steps 3 and 4 for instruction on how to add your parallel port to the driver.

    • If you made it through all steps in sections 1 and 2 without encountering any errors, than the Sentinel Driver is configured properly. Please SKIP the remainder of this document.

  3. Determine the Parallel Port's Hardware Address

    • Open the "System" Control Panel.

    • Click the "Hardware" tab and then click the "Device Manager" button.

    • Click the plus (+) symbol next to the "Ports" section to expand the list of ports connected to your computer.

    • Double-click on the printer port to bring up its properties.

    • Click on the "Resources" tab.

    • Look for the first "I/O Range" entry in the "Resource settings" section of the dialog box. You'll see a range of numbers written ABCD - WXYZ where ABCD and WXYZ represent the actual numbers used by your system. Jot down number your computer uses in position ABCD. This number will be used when configuring the Sentinel Driver in the next section.

  4. Configure the Sentinel Driver to Use an Existing Parallel Port

    • If you've closed the Sentinel Driver configuration tool you'll need to re-run setupsysdriver.exe from the "rainbow technologies\sentinel system driver" directory and then click the "Configure Driver" button.

    • On the "Ports" screen, click the "Add" button.

    • In the box labled "Bus Address" fill in the address number you recorded at the end of section 3.

    • Click the "OK" button and then confirm the changes by clicking "OK" on the confirmation dialog box.

    • Click "OK" on the "Ports" dialog and then close the configuration tool.

    • Your Flo-Series software should now be able to find the verification key. If it cannot, restart your computer and try again. If you continue to experience problems, contact Engineered Software for further assistance.
