Flow of Fluids version 2005 will automatically read project files from version 7.1, however some additional conversion may be required for project files from version 4.
This article describes the conversion methods available.
Flow of Fluids version 2005 can make use of pipe systems files from version 7.1. Opening version 4 files takes a little bit more work.
Keep in mind that once a file has been saved by a newer software version, it can no longer be read by older software. If you have a piping system that needs to be used in multiple software versions, please be certain to make a copy of the file before updating it.
The table below describes the steps necessary for importing systems files of various versions into the current software.
| Importing from Version: | |
|---|---|
| 7.1 |
Please Note: a. Pumps with manually entered curve data will be imported as process fluid curves. b. If a control valve has valve data which uses a different size unit than its inlet pipeline, the valve data will be removed. c. The pipe tables shipped with Flow of Fluids have been changed to more use more descriptive names. When Flow of Fluids is installed, the user has the option of installing the newer tables and deleting the old ones. If a user opens a system that references an older table which has been deleted, Flow of Fluids automatically uses the new table. |

Running Multiple Versions of Flow of Fluids
Installation
By default, all versions of the same Flow of Fluids application install to the same directory, overwriting each other. This prevents mulitple unused software versions from cluttering your system. Users that wish to run multiple versions of the software, including those doing temporary software installation for file updating, should install each version to a different directory.
Licenses
In most cases, old Flow of Fluids versions will run using the hardware keys from newer applications. This means that you do not need to maintain multiple version of licensing hardware. However, if you only have one license, you will not be able to run both an old version and the new version simultaneously. You'll need to close one and then open the other.
In some cases, old software may use radically different licensing mechanisms than new software. In such cases it may be necessary to have a license for each. If you are having trouble running older software, you may contact technical support for advice. However, support for software versions more than three revisions out of date is not guaranteed.
