A flow meter can be modeled in PIPE-FLO 2005 as either a fixed K value or as a component.  If you are using a fixed K value, you can enter it directly or you can calculate the K value using the dP Calculator feature. The three methods are outlined below.

If the flow meter K value is known, it can be installed in the pipeline as a fixed K value. To install a fixed K value:

  1. In the Pipeline dialog box, click the Valves & Fittings tab.
  2. Click the K button.
  3. Select the Fixed K item from the list of valves/fittings.
  4. Specify the flow meter K value in the K value box. You can specify a name for the flow meter in the Descr box.
  5. Click the Add button.

NOTE: If you sized the meter using the flow meter sizing module, you can obtain the meter's K value from the meter list.

If you know the flow rate and the non-recoverable pressure drop for one data point, you can use the dP Calculator feature to calculate a fixed K value for the flow meter.  To use the dP Calculator feature:

  1. In the Pipeline dialog box, click the Valves & Fittings tab.
  2. Click the K button.
  3. Select the Fixed K item from the list of valves/fittings.
  4. Click the dP Calculator button.
  5. Specify the flow rate in the Flow box and the corresponding differential pressure in the dP box.  The K value is calculated and inserted in the K value box.
  6. Choose OK to close the dP Calculator dialog box.  You can specify a name for the flow meter in the Descr box.
  7. Click the Add button.
